ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a detail oriented Junior Estimator to join our team.
You will be responsible for determining the total cost of construction projects ranging from $500K to $5M
Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the COMMERCIAL construction process.
MUST be a NY resident, preferably living within 45 miles of the Garden City office
MUST have a minimum of 2+ years of COMMERCIAL estimating experience. Retail estimating experience is a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
*Review RFP – including plans, specifications, sketches, design narratives, addenda, etc.
*Attend pre-bid meetings, verify existing conditions, analyze factors that may affect constructability.
*Review project drawings and upload each project to planroom/building connected.
*Reach out to subcontractors to ensure comprehensive scope coverage for each project.
*Generate any job-specific requests for Information (RFIs).
*Proficient in on screen take offs (OST) and Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is a plus.
*Preparing bidders lists – custom tailored for each project, carefully selecting those subcontractors that are most appropriate for each project (and most likely to bid).
*Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
*Analyze blueprints, plans, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
*Consult with clients, vendors, and personnel in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
*Following up with subcontractors throughout the bidding period to keep communications open, gauge interest and field RFI’s.
*Analyze historical project data for application to current projects
*Review scope definition & prepare quality survey or take off on a case-by-case basis.
*Identify critical issues that may impact cost sensitive areas
*Initiate inquiries for prices from sub trades and suppliers
*Managing workload to ensure adequate time and resources are earmarked for each respective project.
The Jr. Estimator will report to the Head of Estimating and the Director of Operations.
