Pharmacist in Charge – Home Infusion

Location: Onsite – Madison, Wisconsin

We are a locally owned home infusion pharmacy and part of a national network of over 100 locations across the country. We specialize in delivering home infusion therapies and specialty injectable medications, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care in the comfort of patients' homes or alternate care sites.

Job Summary

The Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) is responsible for leading and overseeing all operational departments within the company, including pharmacy, nursing, administrative, and sales. This role ensures full compliance with state and federal regulations and company policies. The PIC also acts as the designated Key Manager , overseeing financial performance, operational strategy, and clinical implementation. This position includes hands-on pharmacy services, sterile compounding, and direct supervision of pharmacy support personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Pharmacy Operations & Compliance

  • Oversee day-to-day pharmacy operations to ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards.
  • Ensure safe and effective storage, handling, preparation, and disposal of medications and supplies.
  • Maintain all pharmacy records and support audit readiness.
  • Oversee sterile compounding processes and enforce USP <797> and <800> standards.

2. Patient Care

  • Verify and interpret physician orders; compound and dispense medications accurately.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy services including medication therapy management and patient counseling.
  • Collaborate with prescribers and nursing to optimize therapy and patient outcomes.

3. Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, train, and support a high-performing pharmacy team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage performance, resolve conflicts, and promote team engagement.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as a liaison with physicians, healthcare providers, manufacturers, and payers.
  • Represent the company in industry forums and professional networks.
  • Support business development and relationship building with referral sources.

5. Pharmacy Build-Out & Operational Planning

  • Participate in the planning and execution of the pharmacy build-out.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, vendors, and the franchisor to ensure timelines and regulatory standards are met.
  • Oversee licensing, accreditation, and permit processes for startup and sustained operations.

6. Financial Oversight

  • Assist in developing budgets and financial projections.
  • Monitor revenue cycle metrics and financial performance; take action on identified gaps.
  • Ensure fulfillment of service-level agreements and operational KPIs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Active and unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Wisconsin .
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience .
  • At least 1 year of home infusion or sterile compounding experience .
  • Completion of formal sterile compounding training .
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with patients, referral sources, and healthcare providers.
  • Willingness to travel for training, seminars, and company meetings.

Preferred

  • Proven leadership or management experience in a pharmacy setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations impacting pharmacy practice and home infusion.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift over 40 lbs as needed.
  • Extended periods of standing.
  • Frequent computer use.
  • Potential exposure to latex-containing products.
