Service Area and Residence

Site Safety Specialists will be expected to travel occasionally to remote worksites across the nation and should be home-based within the central US or Southern region.

What does the Site Safety Specialist do?

The Site Safety Specialist is responsible for fully supporting all field operations within their jurisdiction, ensuring compliance with all required EH&S documentation, PPE (including related supplies and equipment), training, site audits, and incident investigations.

The Site Safety Specialist must communicate clearly and effectively with team members, partners, and customers regarding safety requirements on their projects. They must also ensure that the work being performed meets both SilMan and our client’s expectations, while proactively observing and communicating with project teams and upper management, as necessary.

This individual role embraces SilMan’s safety culture and supports the enforcement of SilMan’s EH&S policies and procedures in a professional manner.

Here are a few of the responsibilities of the Site Safety Specialist

As a vital member of the Safety Team, you will effectively execute tasks such as:

  • Ensures a safe and healthy working environment for all team members on each project work site by conducting periodic site visits.
  • Communicates with site leaders regarding any observed unsafe acts, conditions, or disregard for environmental, health, and safety (EH&S) policies.
  • Reviews and communicates with our project team (including subcontractors) regarding all worksite safety rules, policies, and procedures related to OSHA compliance.
  • Performs worksite hazard and risk assessments based on site conditions, scope of work, related tasks, and equipment required.
  • Supports the development of all project safety documentation as required, including Job Hazard
  • Analysis (JHAs), lift plans, permits, site postings, orientations, training logs, emergency plans/maps, safety audit reports, etc.
  • Conducts a complete investigation for each reported incident. This includes onsite support for
  • medical care, evidence collection and review, root cause analysis, and completion of the investigation summary report.
  • Supports field teams with safety consumables, supplies, PPE, and equipment, which includes ordering, inventory control, deliveries, storage, organization, and training.
  • Communicates with site leaders concerning any observed unsafe acts, conditions, or disregard to EH&S policies.
  • Provides and documents all safety tooling and equipment training to field TMs as required for their assigned role and tasks.
  • Conducts safety meetings and training sessions onsite when required.
  • Reviews all site safety documentation and related training records for accuracy and completion.
  • Attends site safety meetings and communicates with field teams, client management, and safety professionals as necessary.
  • Supports new hire onboarding, including verification and submittal of employee documentation to HR/Payroll.
  • Supports our team with site access requirements, including background checks, drug and alcohol testing, safety orientations, certification training, and security badge issuance.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • 5+ years of field safety management experience, performing site visits, training, and audits.
  • OSHA 510 or 500 certification preferred, or equivalent education/certification (i.e., BCSP certification or Bachelor's in Occupational Safety & Health).
  • Takes pride in working in the construction field and manufacturing facility environments.
  • Safety management experience within the construction, manufacturing, and industrial environment is a must. Automotive manufacturing safety is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of common OSHA regulations and industry standards regarding EH&S within both Construction and the General Industry.
  • Experience with pre-task safety planning, risk assessments, and project/task-specific JHAs.
  • Skilled in conducting safety meetings and training sessions.
  • A background in developing common safety documentation, including site postings, training records, emergency plans/maps, inspections, and safety audit reports.
  • Ability to read and comprehend applicable industry standards, AutoCAD drawings, product specifications, manufacturer labels, SDSs, operator’s manuals, and similar data as it relates to S&H management.
  • Clean driving record and governmental background checks with the ability to travel within the continental US.

Work Environment

This role primarily operates within the field of construction, often within an industrial or manufacturing facility, including professional office environments. This role may work at home or remotely in between site visits, using standard office equipment, computers and online platforms. This role will typically have direct contact with SilMan’s EH&S Director and field teams on a daily/weekly basis.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position with flexible considerations for remote work.

Normal days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Hours may vary based on project demands and client-specific requirements, schedules, investigations, travel, etc.

Travel

Travel will be expected for this role, approximately 30-50% out in the field, depending on project demands, schedules, shutdown work, and/or site locations.
