Commercial Installation LEAD Technician

Location: Birmingham AL | Travel-Based | Full-Time | LEAD Position

Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Canton, Georgia, RPM AV Services is a full-service commercial audiovisual integration company with nearly three decades of experience supporting integrators, contractors, and end users across the U.S.

With regional offices in Atlanta, Birmingham, Raleigh, Dallas, and Tampa, our technicians are equipped to travel nationwide to meet client needs.

RPM AV Services is seeking an experienced Lead Audio-Visual Technician to join our growing commercial integration team. In this leadership role, you'll oversee onsite project execution, direct installation teams, and ensure the quality and consistency of AV system installations across various commercial environments.

As a Lead Technician, you will represent RPM on job sites, act as the point of contact for project managers and clients, and ensure all work meets design specifications, code requirements, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the load-in/load-out of audiovisual equipment to and from job sites, client facilities, or RPM’s warehouse.
  • Supervise and assist with cable pulling, termination, and labeling in accordance with project documentation and local code.
  • Install and oversee installation of AV systems, including:
  • Displays, projectors, and screens
  • Ceiling and wall speakers
  • Equipment racks, control panels, and video conferencing gear
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to track progress, troubleshoot issues, and document daily activity.
  • Perform basic testing, QA (Quality Assurance), and assist with system commissioning.
  • Ensure site safety and adherence to company standards and industry best practices.
  • Mentor and support junior technicians and apprentices onsite.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial AV installation, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role
  • Proficient in reading construction plans, signal flow diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Strong knowledge of cable infrastructure (Cat6, speaker wire, fiber, etc.)
  • Experience with AV equipment from manufacturers like Crestron, Extron, Biamp, QSC, etc.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in ceiling spaces
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed

Preferred but not required:

  • AVIXA CTS certification
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
  • Experience with DSP and control system programming
  • Familiarity with commissioning and testing processes
