Direct Hire – Steel Detailer/CAD Designer-Drafter

$58k-65/yr

Location: Kokomo, IN

We are seeking a skilled Steel Detailer to join our manufacturing team specializing in custom steel components and sheet lining solutions. This role focuses on creating precise CAD drawings and detailed fabrication instructions for metal parts used in industrial applications – not structural construction. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design and fabrication, with a sharp eye for detail and experience in custom steel manufacturing. Key

Responsibilities:

• Create 2D and 3D CAD models for custom steel components using software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar.
• Develop detailed part and assembly drawings with accurate dimensions, tolerances, material specifications, and welding symbols.
• Interpret customer specifications and translate them into shop-ready fabrication drawings.
• Work closely with engineers, machinists, and production teams to ensure manufacturability and proper fit/function.
• Revise and update drawings based on design changes or shop feedback.
• Assist with material take-offs, BOM generation, and shop packet preparation.
• Ensure all detailing work adheres to internal quality standards and industry best practices. -Maintain organized digital files and version control of all drawings and documents.

Qualifications:

• 2+ years of experience as a steel detailer or mechanical drafter in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication, weldments, and machining processes. -Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Knowledge of fabrication tolerances, material properties, and GD&T.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with custom sheet metal products, liners, guards, brackets, or enclosures.
• Background in tool & die, press brake, or Designer/Drafter
• Familiarity with steel grades and coatings
