POSITION SUMMARY

The State & Federal Legislative Affairs Coordinator for the Florida Hospital Association is responsible for supporting the association’s government relations strategy at both the state and federal levels. Based in Tallahassee, FL, this role will monitor legislation, track regulatory activity, coordinate advocacy initiatives, and foster relationships with policymakers and stakeholders. The Coordinator will serve as a key liaison between the association and legislative offices, assisting in advancing the association’s policy agenda while ensuring compliance with lobbying and reporting requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Organize, develop, and distribute, in coordination with leadership, communications to members around legislative actions and priorities.
• Track, analyze, and summarize proposed state and federal legislation and regulations affecting the association.
• Prepare legislative reports for members, articles for weekly legislative updates, and issue collateral for legislative distribution.
• Coordinate state legislative and federal meetings.
• Attend and monitor committee meetings and develop briefing memos.
• Manage schedules, briefing materials, and logistics for legislative-related travel and events.
• Work with the legislative and communications teams to coordinate grassroots communications by hospital members with their respective legislative delegations.
• Help coordinate, communicate, and prepare written correspondence relating to legislative concerns, complaints, and inquiries from various city, county, and/or state agencies, community groups, and organizations through a telephone conversation or personal interaction.
• Coordinate and attend community-related meetings and/or functions, as assigned.
• Assist in conducting research, preparing, and compiling legislative correspondence, summaries, and other documents (such as statutes, bill analysis, or informational materials) as well as reports summarizing and analyzing recent or pending state and federal legislation.
• Assist in planning, organization, and execution of political activities of the Association, including member fundraising, contributions to lawmakers, and political event execution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or related field required.
• 2-4 years of experience in legislative affairs, government relations, or policy analysis preferred.
• Familiarity with the Florida legislative process and federal policymaking strongly desired.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex policy issues into clear messaging.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong project management skills that are effective in leading and driving progress through teamwork; experience with Smartsheets a plus.
• Ability to analyze a variety of problems and to recommend solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work irregular hours, including attendance at Legislative meetings, District meetings, or other community meetings, if directed.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with legislative tracking tools a plus.
