Job Description

Position Objective:

The Recreation Attendant is responsible for supporting the recreation department in fitness, aquatics, youth, and member activities. This high-energy role focuses on creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for members and guests of all ages. Recreation Attendants will assist with daily programs, fitness center operations, special events, and activities while ensuring an exceptional member experience.

Position Functions and Duties:

Youth & Activities Responsibilities:

• Lead and facilitate pre-planned activities for children, teens, adults, and families, including crafts, games, socials, and club-hosted events.
• Work directly with or independently from the Director of Member Experience to carry out scheduled programs.
• Create a fun and inclusive atmosphere where members and guests feel welcomed and engaged.
• Prepare spaces, materials, and equipment prior to activities, and ensure proper cleanup/reset after.
• Greet and assist members, answer questions, and provide event support.
• Use AV equipment as needed for announcements, music, or entertainment.
• Ensure activities are conducted in a safe, clean, and respectful environment, reporting incidents or hazards promptly.

Fitness & Aquatics Responsibilities:

• Verify membership/ID and enforce fitness center policies and procedures.
• Monitor the gym area to promote a safe workout environment.
• Provide guidance on proper use of equipment to support confidence and safety.
• Maintain cleanliness of the fitness floor, sanitize equipment, and organize weights.
• Ensure weight benches and machines are properly arranged.
• Assist with cleaning, laundry, and restocking of supplies.
• Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies following club protocols.
• Report injuries, thefts, damages, or equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
• Support Fitness Director and Supervisors with assigned duties and attend staff meetings/trainings.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience required.
• Minimum 1 year of Recreation, hospitality, childcare, or fitness experience required. 
• Outgoing, energetic personality with the ability to engage all ages.
• Ability to lead activities, give clear instructions, and encourage participation.
• Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Comfortable working indoors/outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed.

Physical & Mental Demands:

• Ability to safely lift items up to 30 pounds.
• Continuous walking and standing for long periods.
• Frequent lifting, bending, stooping, pulling, and repetitive actions.
• Ability to convey information clearly and respond calmly under pressure.
• Must be effective in listening to, understanding, and clarifying member and guest concerns.

Typical Working Conditions:

• Work performed in both indoor and outdoor recreation and fitness settings.
• Environment may be busy, noisy, and include varied weather conditions (heat, humidity, cool/cold).
• Flexible schedule required, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business dictates.
