ENL (English as a New Language) Teacher

The International Leadership Charter High School is a top-performing, college-preparatory public charter school committed to educating first- and second-generation students in the Bronx. We are proud to be ranked in the top 1% of NYC public high schools and have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s Best High Schools from 2013 to 2024.

Our mission is to empower scholars to become academically successful and civically engaged leaders through a rigorous Regents and college-preparatory curriculum. We are seeking passionate, highly qualified educators to join our dedicated team and help our students reach their fullest potential.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated ENL (English as a New Language) teacher to support English Language Learners (ELLs) in achieving academic excellence and English language proficiency. The ideal candidate will have strong content knowledge, experience working with linguistically and culturally diverse students, and a deep commitment to equity and high standards in education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that fosters student learning and growth.
  • Differentiate instruction and implement formative and summative assessments to drive data-informed instruction.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, and student support teams to integrate language development with academic content.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and language proficiency levels and communicate regularly with families and school staff.
  • Participate actively in professional development sessions and school-based initiatives.
  • Reflect on instructional practices and seek ongoing opportunities to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to our mission and core values.
  • Demonstrate an ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize strategically
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with the CEO, administrators, students, parents, teachers and community

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in TESOL, English Education, or a related field; or currently enrolled in a Master’s program with certification pending.
  • Valid New York State teaching certification in ESOL/ENL or related field (Internship Certificate accepted).
  • 1–2 years of teaching experience preferred, especially in urban or charter school settings.
  • Deep understanding of second language acquisition and culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to foster a high-achievement environment.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology, including platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and data tracking tools.
  • High emotional intelligence, adaptability, and collaborative spirit.

Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive salary ranging from $65,000–$75,000, commensurate with experience and demonstrated success. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid time off and school holidays
  • Ongoing professional development and growth opportunities
