Department: Operations

Reports To: General Manager of PPITS

Location: Auburn, WA

POSITION PURPOSE

Position requires the Calibration Technician/Technical Documentation Librarian to ensure both Calibration classroom and on the job training (OJT) is provided to appropriate operations personnel, verifies/validates and maintains records regarding repair and calibration of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). As the Calibration Technician, this individual will perform voltage, current, power, impedance, frequency, microwave, temperature, physical-dimensional, and optical measurements within a USAF PMEL and a civilian calibration laboratory. Concurrently, as the Technical Documentation Librarian, this individual will be responsible for ensuring assigned applicable technical documentation is always maintained to current revisions.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

As the Calibration Technician, the individual will work with the Training Coordinator within the work environment to learn and implement calibration fundamentals which can include measurement, temperature, electronics, etc.

The Calibration Technician/Technical Documentation Librarian will be expected to perform the following Calibration related Primary Objectives: Learn fundamental calibration techniques and processes; Develop skills necessary to preform calibrations independently; Develop skills necessary to advance to calibration technician I position within one year which includes proficiency in at least one discipline; Develop the skills and processes necessary to perform calibration work within a lab environment.

 

· Reports directly to the General Manager of PPI Technical Services or designee.

· Responsible for calibrations and reporting calibrations with certificate data.

· Keeps Training Director well informed of status of training plans, to ensure training milestones are met.

· Communicates effectively with calibration customers to identify needs and evaluate capabilities via personalized needs assessments.

· Help shape training plans to support customer mission requirements.

· Help reviews task essential TMDE and those items impact on back shop workload.

· Ensures all calibration and certification of TMDE is to technical data specifications, while also ensuring traceability to ISO standards.

· Directly responsible for ensuring equipment maintenance is conducted using theories of operation, block diagrams, schematics, and software diagnostics.

· Helps oversee the creation an inventory of calibrated equipment, tracks warranties, and ensures technical compliance using most current technical manuals.

· Helps to evaluate procedures for storage, inventory, and inspection of calibrated equipment as it is received.

· Helps to develop and continually evaluate shop workload planning, budget, and support agreements to ensure successful training completion.

· Will help customers quality departments, engineers and other technicians with quantitative measurements, measurement methodology and procedures as it applies to calibrated instruments or equipment.

As the Technical Documentation Librarian, the individual will work with the Training Coordinator within the work environment to learn and implement technical library maintenance fundamentals which can include managing technical documentation lists, ordering appropriate updates to technical manuals, and disseminating current technical documentation to operations personnel, etc.

The Calibration Technician/Technical Documentation Librarian will be expected to perform the following Technical Documentation related Primary Objectives: maintaining a list of all applicable technical documents for the assigned operations; monitoring revisions to the applicable technical documents, ordering appropriate technical documents and updates through appropriate channels; ensuring current technical documents are always available to operations technicians.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for a Calibration Technician/Technical Documentation Librarian position, the following knowledge, skills and abilities are preferred: Ability to learn new skills in regards to calibration and calibration processes. Previous experience with electronic or machining training Basic mathematical skills including algebra, geometry and statistics Familiarity with basic tools Proficiency with office computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Basic organizational and time management skills Candidates with experience in PMEL, PME, TMDE, Metrology, Calibration, ASQ CCT, METCAL, GPETE, Electronics, GCAMS, or Avionics highly desired

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

· Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution recommend.

 

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE

• Five (5) or more years in an inspection capacity performing the type of work which they will be inspecting.

• Military experience and familiarity with aviation industry, equipment knowledge and technical documents.

· Experience performing calibrations in an ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory.

· Calibration experience with: Frequency, Microwave, Precision AC/DC, Fiber Optics, Temperature, Humidity, Torque, Force, Dimensional, Optics, Mass, Pressure, Flow, or Gas.

 

Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed and complicated written or oral instructions. Manages problems involving many variables in sometimes difficult and stressful situations. Examples include: resolving staff conflicts, dealing with sometimes irate and impatient users, and managing many simultaneous high priority projects and user requests.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events; Attention to detail, ability to balance multiple work assignments; organized work habits; ability to work independently while working OCONUS; Ability to analyze situations, research problems and answers, and present solutions to internal and external customers; ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills; professional telephone manner required. High proficiency with major software programs: e.g., MS Office Suite. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Preferred but not necessary ASQ, PMEL or Calibration certificates of training.
