Join a Leading Innovator in Aviation Manufacturing as a Senior Product Quality Engineer
TRC Talent is partnering with a dynamic, rapidly growing avionics manufacturer in San Jose to find a highly motivated and skilled Senior Product Quality Engineer . This is an exciting long-term contract opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking company that is transforming the future of aerospace . As a key member of our Quality Engineering team, you will directly influence the quality, safety, and reliability of cutting-edge aircraft systems and components, working in an innovative and collaborative environment .
What You'll Do:
- Drive Excellence : Ensure airframe components, assemblies, and systems meet rigorous design, quality, safety, regulatory, and industry-specific standards, contributing to the uncompromising quality of aircraft.
- Collaborate with Experts : Work closely with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and cross-functional departments to ensure smooth product transitions from design to production, offering your expert guidance on quality-related issues.
- Lead Cutting-Edge Quality Initiatives : Spearhead the development and implementation of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) techniques such as PFMEAs, control plans, and SPC to maintain industry-leading standards.
- Innovative Inspection Leadership : Lead the creation of advanced inspection plans , and support or conduct First Article Inspections (FAIs) in compliance with SAE AS9102 to ensure precision and reliability in every component.
- Champion Continuous Improvement : Take ownership of driving continuous improvement initiatives , from conducting root cause analysis to leading corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and help evolve airframe manufacturing processes.
- Deliver Impactful Insights : Develop and present insightful reports summarizing quality performance, findings, and actionable recommendations , driving improvements that benefit the organization.
- Shape the Future of Manufacturing : Create and monitor key metrics and KPIs to assess manufacturing system health and ensure ongoing progress and efficiency in the production process.
- Mitigate Risk & Drive Safety : Identify potential risks early on, collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop mitigation strategies, and establish contingency plans, ensuring the highest levels of safety and reliability.
- Develop the Next Generation : Lead the development of training programs , ensuring that team members and stakeholders are equipped with the tools, knowledge, and best practices to uphold quality standards and maintain excellence.
- Contribute to FAA Conformity : Assist with planning and coordinating FAA conformity inspections and certification processes to ensure the company’s continued compliance and success .
What You Need:
- Solid Foundation : A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial) with at least 5+ years of hands-on experience in a similar role.
- Technical Expertise : Experience creating and approving first article inspections (FAIs) with proficiency in the tools required for inspection. Solid knowledge of APQP processes , including PPAPs, DFM, MSAs, FMEAs, and SPC.
- Regulatory Experience : Proven background in aerospace or highly regulated manufacturing environments with an understanding of GD&T, and ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Quality Standards Mastery : Knowledge of industry-leading quality standards such as AS9100, AS9102, AS9103, AS9145, and AS6500 .
Bonus Qualifications (Preferred, But Not Required):
- Familiarity with SAP systems and creating real-time dashboards using Sigma or Microsoft BI to drive transparency and actionable insights.
- FAA Conformity experience and a proven track record in working with the FAA and Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs).
- Six Sigma Black/Green Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer —bring your expertise in process optimization to a fast-paced and growth-oriented environment.
- Experience with the development and validation of automated inspection equipment in a manufacturing setting, with skills in SQL programming .
- Aircraft or composite assembly process experience, contributing to the state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques in the aerospace industry.
